Where are we?
For the purposes of the Indiana GPS Project, Northwest Indiana covers Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, and Starke Counties—an area that includes multiple communities that together make up Indiana’s second largest population center. Northwest Indiana has long been the home to heavy industry, meaning (unfortunately) that it has felt the effects of deindustrialization in recent years.
Where are we going?
The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority is among many organizations working to enhance the region’s economy. The region’s economy is bolstered by efforts to create infrastructure that links the region to Chicago and the world, as well as tourism from visitors to the shores of Lake Michigan.
